Lighting

What is the lighting industry?

The lighting industry includes manufacturers of luminaires, light sources, control systems and solutions used in residential, commercial, industrial and public spaces. It is a fast-developing sector in which technical performance is just as important as design, energy efficiency and user comfort.

Modern lighting is much more than traditional lamps or LED luminaires. Manufacturers now offer advanced track systems, smart control systems, street lighting, solar solutions, emergency and escape lighting, as well as systems integrated with building automation.

Low-voltage 48V systems are also becoming increasingly popular. These solutions make it possible to design modern, flexible lighting installations while maintaining a high level of user safety.

The European lighting market includes brands such as Signify, Thorn Lighting, Fagerhult, Glamox, Louis Poulsen and Astro Lighting. It also includes many specialised manufacturers of architectural, technical, emergency and outdoor lighting systems.

Their customers include electrical wholesalers, installers, architects, interior designers, developers, investors and retail networks specialising in lighting technology.

Product presentation challenges

The lighting industry offers a very wide range of products that differ in function, design and technical parameters. Sales teams present linear LED luminaires, track spotlights, suspended luminaires, recessed luminaires, surface-mounted luminaires, LED profiles, LED strips, power supplies, controllers, remote controls and motion sensors.

One of the key challenges is transporting products with very different dimensions. A single presentation may include small mounting accessories, light sources, architectural luminaires and complete track systems or street lighting components.

In many cases, showing the product itself is not enough. Customers expect to see how a luminaire works, compare colour temperatures, test control systems and understand how a given solution can be configured. Products must therefore be safely transported and prepared for quick connection during a sales meeting.

The visual quality of the presentation is also becoming increasingly important. This applies not only to decorative lighting, but also to technical products such as emergency, escape and industrial lighting. Manufacturers now pay attention not only to function, but also to design, material quality and brand consistency.

Presentation solutions for the lighting industry

Lighting manufacturers use many different presentation tools. These include presentation cases, demo cases, custom sample cases, cases with foam, product sample boxes, technical displays and POS systems used in electrical wholesalers, showrooms and trade fair spaces.

At Pinia Design, we design and manufacture solutions that help lighting companies present products safely, clearly and professionally. Depending on the product type, these may be soft fabric cases, a plastic case, an aluminium case, a premium product box, a countertop display, a floor display or a dedicated showroom display.

Presentation cases for the lighting industry

Custom case with foam for track systems and unusual products

Some products used in the lighting industry require solutions that cannot be placed inside a standard case. A good example is a project prepared for Kanlux for the TRI-TRACK system.

The case presented TRI-TRACK system components, including tracks, spotlights, L, T and X connectors, power elements and suspension accessories. The unusual dimensions of the products required an individually designed presentation case and precisely fitted custom foam inserts.

The longest side of the case was over one metre, yet the shallow construction and low weight made it convenient for everyday transport. The large surface allowed all system components to be arranged clearly in dedicated foam trays.

This gave the customer an immediate overview of the complete system rather than a set of separate parts. The large presentation area also made it possible to show tracks, spotlights and accessories in a clean and structured way during sales meetings.

The case was also designed so that selected luminaires could be connected to a power source. During a presentation, the sales representative can show not only the product design, but also the light direction and configuration possibilities.

This type of sales demo case is especially useful for modern track systems, which often offer many configuration and expansion options. Depending on the project, these may include classic 230V systems or increasingly popular low-voltage 48V solutions.

Other projects prepared for this brand included systems such as 1F TEAR, ACORD Track Light, NANO-TRACK and VIRIS.

Branded presentation case aligned with visual identity

Branding plays a very important role in the lighting industry. Manufacturers often use corporate colours, logos and consistent visual identity elements in their sales tools.

Examples include projects prepared for Kanlux and the Italian company Pan International. In one case, the key element was the brand’s distinctive blue fabric. In the other, we used an elegant graphite material with a subtle white logo.

As a result, the presentation case becomes more than a transport tool. It also supports the professional image of the brand and helps sales teams present products in a consistent visual style.

In some markets, this type of solution may also be described as a presentation suitcase, especially when it is used by sales representatives during customer visits, trade fairs and showroom presentations.

Cases with foam for heavier luminaires

For larger and heavier products, manufacturers often choose solutions equipped with a trolley system and wheels. We used this type of solution for Spectra Lighting.

The case acts as a mobile showroom, making it easier to transport products between customers, trade fairs and sales presentations. The large, colourful logo on the front makes the case an additional mobile branding tool.

The combination of lightweight construction and convenient transport system allows sales teams to present heavier products without carrying them by hand. This is particularly important for larger demonstration sets used in daily sales work.

In this type of project, cases with foam protect the products during transport and help keep the presentation organised. Properly designed foam trays and custom foam inserts reduce movement inside the case and make each product immediately visible after opening.

Cases with foam for emergency lighting systems

Another interesting example is a double-wing case prepared for TM Technologie. The case was designed to present several emergency and escape lighting products at the same time.

The products included ONTEC emergency luminaires, PRIMO escape signs, pictogram luminaires and anti-panic lighting solutions. The case allowed the sales representative to show the range clearly and compare different product types during one meeting.

Although this product group is technical, the presentation still had to be aesthetic and consistent with the brand image. The graphite fabric, clean layout and carefully fitted foam helped create a professional sales tool.

Inside the case, we used individual custom foam inserts matched to the shape of each product.

The case was also equipped with a special external strap, allowing it to be placed over the handle of a wheeled suitcase. This makes business travel easier and improves everyday comfort for sales teams.

This solution is a good example of a demo case that combines product protection, transport convenience and visual presentation in one tool.

Plastic case for technical products

For products with a more technical character, a plastic case is often the best choice. A project prepared for the Italian company Tec-Mar shows this approach well.

A plastic case highlights the professional and engineering-focused character of the presented solution. At the same time, it provides a high level of product protection during everyday use and frequent sales trips.

This type of case works particularly well for technical lighting products, installation-focused solutions and product sets that need to be presented in a compact, durable and organised format.

For many lighting manufacturers, plastic sample cases are a practical option for sales teams, installers and technical consultants. They are durable, convenient and can be combined with foam inserts, product descriptions and branding elements.

Aluminium case for advanced lighting technologies

Aluminium cases are often chosen by manufacturers of technologically advanced lighting systems.

In one of our projects, an aluminium case was used to present a solution designed for street lighting. In addition to the lighting fixture itself, the case also displayed a detailed technological system placed under a transparent plate.

Under the plate, there were components responsible for controlling the street luminaire, including fuses, radio controllers, antennas and elements used for communication and system management. This solution made it possible to present the product and explain how the entire system works at the same time.

The aluminium case emphasised the technical character of the presented solution, as well as the quality and professionalism of the manufacturer. For technologically advanced products, aluminium cases often become an important element supporting the sales process and building the brand image.

Custom sample cases and boxes with foam for lighting manufacturers

Not every product requires a case with a handle. In the lighting industry, premium boxes and custom sample cases are also popular, especially for product launches, architectural presentations and meetings with interior designers.

For AQForm, we prepared an elegant box with foam for luminaires such as HOLLOW LED, QRLED and PUTT LED. Inside, we used Plastazote foam and an additional compartment for mounting accessories.

The minimalist form, graphic inside the lid and carefully selected materials made the box feel closer to a premium display package than a standard product package. It is a good example of how a material sample box approach can inspire product presentation in the lighting industry.

This type of material box works well when a manufacturer wants to show selected products, finishes, details or small product groups in a refined and compact format. It can also support presentations of material samples, colour options or product variants for architects and designers.

Product displays and POS systems

The lighting industry often uses product display systems, sample display tools and POS solutions that support sales in electrical wholesalers, showrooms and retail spaces. These solutions allow customers to switch products on, compare light parameters and test selected functions before making a purchase decision.

Depending on the product type, we design countertop displays, floor displays, wall displays, illuminated presentation systems, merchandising stands and technical demo units. These tools can be combined with branding, POS signage, printed panels, wall graphics, product descriptions and even a 3D logo.

Countertop displays

A good example is a countertop display prepared for Kanlux. The display was made from blue plastic and printed in a way that matched the brand’s visual identity.

It presented four light sources, each controlled by an individual switch. This allowed customers to compare products directly at the point of sale and see how each light source works.

A compact product display like this works well in electrical wholesalers, retail counters and showroom spaces. It helps customers make decisions faster and makes the product easier to understand.

Merchandising displays

Some lighting products require more than a static display. Customers often want to compare light colour, brightness, colour temperature and control options.

For LEDLINE, we created a display presenting LED strips and VARIANTE controllers. The display showed 14 LED strip models, each connected to an individual switch. It allowed users to compare different lighting effects in one place.

The VARIANTE LED Controller allows LED lighting to be controlled in private interiors using a remote control or smartphone. It can adjust brightness, colour, colour temperature and dynamic effects.

In this type of project, the display becomes a small showroom display. It helps customers understand the product through direct interaction rather than through a catalogue or technical description only.

Sample display with hooks for lighting products and accessories

Lighting products are also sold using merchandising displays designed for retail and wholesale spaces. Depending on the product type, these displays may include shelves or hook systems for hanging packaged products.

This type of sample display is used for light sources, LED strips, controllers and mounting accessories. It helps organise the sales area and gives customers easy access to frequently purchased products.

For manufacturers, well-designed merchandising systems improve product visibility and help maintain a consistent brand presence in stores.

Floor displays for street and park lighting

Even large products need proper presentation in sales spaces. A good example is a floor display prepared for LEDLINE.

The construction included a stable base for mounting heavier products and an additional wall panel for presenting luminaires. The display was designed to show selected street and park lighting products in real scale.

The floor display presents selected LEDLINE products, including PARK series park lamps and Camino and Streetlight series road luminaires. Customers could see the size, construction and quality of the products before making a purchase decision.

For selected projects, this type of solution can also be combined with an illuminated display or a rotating display, depending on the product and sales environment.
